Despite the creation of the top division in the non-league pyramid is was an Isthmian and Northern Premier League side who made the final in 1980 with Dagenham being the first Southern team to lift the Trophy. Despite winning the Northern Premier League Premier Division in 1978/79 Mossley had been denied promotion to the Alliance Premier League due to their Seel Park ground not being up to the required standard but they went on to top the NPL in the 79/80 season and then finish runner's up three seasons in a row. Such dizzy heights have not returned to the club - they were beaten in the quarter-final by Bangor City in 1981 and the quarter-finals of the Vase in 96/97 (lost to Whitby Town), 99/00 (Deal Town) and AFC Sudbury in 2003. Mossley beat Boston and Boston United on the way to Wembley. The defeat was their first in 31 league and cup games so the win for Dagenham was well deserved. Their goal scorers were George Duck and Chris Maycock.

A monumental achievement for Bishop's Stortford as at the time they were a step three side in the Isthmian League Division One and won the competition against all the odds.
They started out in the Preliminary Round with a 3-1 home win against Spalding United, then victories over Chelmsford City, Kingstonian, Hendon, Bridgend Town (after a replay), Dagenham (who were holders of the Trophy - after a replay), Alvechurch, Worcester Ciry and Dartford in the semi-final. Terry Sullivan scored the all important winning goal in the 90th minute of the game.
Bangor City (then of the Alliance Premier League) were the first Welsh club to reach the semi-final stage of the competition. Sutton United were managed by Barrie Williams who famously went on to take The U's to arguably the most famous of non-league FA Cup victories when they beat Coventry City in January 1989. Wembley wasn't a happy hunting ground for Sutton United - they had previously lost the FA Amateur Cup finals of 1963 (to Wimbledon) and 1969 to North Shields.

Dartford are one of the most unluckiest clubs in Trophy history. This was their third semi-final defeat of the 80s. They had also reached the quarter-finals in 82/83 where they had lost to eventual winner's Telford United. In the 1970's they reached the quarter-finals in 71/72 and the final in 73/74 losing to Morecambe. In 2013 The Darts got to the semi-final stage losing to Grimsby Town 3-0 on aggregate.
Telford United's Ian Crawley became a Wembley history maker in this final as he scored the winner in extra time just six years after scoring the winning goal for VS Rugby in the 1983 FA Vase final against Halesowen Town. Sadly Ian passed away in 2008 (aged just 46) after being diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease and pancreactic cancer. He is fondly remembered from his time with Telford United and VS Rugby as well as Kettering Town, Solihull Borough and Nuneaton Borough.
Telford United banish their memories of the defeat to Enfield FC to win their third trophy (in their fifth final) with a narrow 1-0 victory over Macclesfield Town. This was The Bucks last appearance at Wembley - they did go on to get to the semi-final stage on two further occasions in 2000 (lost to Kettering Town) and 2004 (lost to Canvey Island).
AFC Telford United formed after the orignal club were wound up in 2004 have also reached the semi-final stage on two occasions in 2009 (lost to York City) and 2019 (lost to Leyton Orient).
